I wanted to share an exciting community engagement opportunity we are exploring as part of Forsyth Fest — the installation of a community-created mural through the Mural Mosaic America 250th program.

This is a little different than a traditional mural. Instead of one artist painting a wall, this project is created by our residents themselves.

How the Mural Mosaic Process Works:

• A large mural image is selected.
• That image is broken into hundreds of small individual panels (tiles).
• Community members sign up to participate and are each given a tile to paint.
• Each participant paints their tile following simple color-by-number style instructions provided by the program. No artistic experience is needed.
• Once all tiles are completed, they are collected and assembled into the full mural image.
• The finished mural is installed as a permanent public art piece in the Village.

What makes this especially meaningful is that the mural is not just something the community looks at — it is something the community creates together.

Our next step is determining which mural design best fits our community - and we need your help! Please visit the link below to vote for the image that you believe best fits Forsyth.

Village Offices Closed for Thanksgiving

Village Hall, Public Works, and the Forsyth Library will all be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday November 28 in observance of Thanksgiving.

Our Public Works team has been working overtime and even weekends to keep leaf pickup moving along. With the holiday, they will not be working over the long weekend.

We are currently down one leaf truck, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience as the crew continues to do their best to reach every neighborhood as quickly and safely as possible.

We hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 🦃🍁

Our holiday elves — better known as Blue Rock — are busy getting the tents up today (11/25/25)!

Starting today, the main parking lot will be closed through Tuesday, December 9 to allow for the full setup and teardown of Rudolph’s Village Market.

You can still park in the south lot off Weaver Road, so please feel free to use that area while we get everything ready for another magical season. 🎄✨

Thank you for your patience — it’s going to look wonderful!

Update on the Feed the Need Food Pantry:
Thanks to generous community support, the Feed the Need Food Pantry at Forsyth Public Library continues to grow! On a daily basis, folks are stopping by to pick up additional food and toiletry items to help meet their needs and we wouldn't be able to do this without your help. Each day, local residents are dropping off new items to add to the shelves or bringing in cash or check donations. This latest shelf restock was purchased with the donations from many of FPL's Chair Yoga attendees and we're so thankful for their support.

Feed the Need is designed to be a "Take What You Need, Leave What You Can" resource. Please spread the word to any of our local families who could benefit! The Feed the Need shelf is located in the interior hallway of Forsyth Public Library and is available during normal library hours: Mon, Tues and Thurs 9 AM - 7 PM, Wed and Fri 9 AM - 5 PM and Sat 9 AM - 1 PM.

If you have the means to contribute, we'd be happy to accept your food contributions or cash donations. Please inquire at the library circulation desk and we'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

You may have noticed something new in the park! 🌳✨

Our Public Works team came up with a wonderful idea — instead of removing dead trees all the way to the ground, we’re turning them into beautiful wood sculptures. It’s a great way to add character to our parks while honoring the natural landscape.

And don’t worry — whenever a tree is removed, a new one is planted.

Isn’t this one stunning? You can find it in Forsyth Park down by the bridge. 💚

We have been seeing a lot of dangerous e-bike usage around town and we’ve also been receiving a lot of citizen complaints about them. People are concerned about children on e-bikes running stop signs and driving recklessly through neighborhoods. Some of these kids don't appear to even be paying attention to the stop signs, or, even worse, looking for oncoming traffic before entering or crossing an intersection.
Friends, the entire goal of this post is to prevent accidents before they happen. We do not want to see any children in our community needlessly struck while riding on them.
🚲 E-Bikes 🚲
To qualify as a low-speed electric bicycle under Illinois law, the bike must have:
☑️ Fully operable pedals
☑️ An electric motor of less than 750 watts
☑️ A maximum assisted speed of 20 mph (28 mph for Class 3)
Important reminders about operating e-bikes:
☑️ E-bikes CANNOT be ridden on public sidewalks.
☑️ You must be 16 or older to ride a Class 3 e-bike.
☑️ It is illegal to tamper with or modify the speed capability of an e-bike without a valid updated label.
☑️ E-bike riders must follow the same rules of the road that apply to traditional cyclists (including signaling, obeying stop signs, and lane usage).
☑️ No more than two e-bikes abreast on the roadway.
Also, E-bikes operating at night must have a front lamp and a rear reflector.
🚲 E-Dirt Bikes 🚲
Electric dirt bikes do NOT meet Illinois’ legal definition of a low-speed electric bicycle because they typically have motors exceeding 750 watts and can reach speeds higher than 28 mph.
Operating an electric dirt bike requires:
☑️ A valid driver’s license
☑️ Registration with the Illinois Secretary of State
☑️ Compliance with insurance requirements
Electric dirt bikes cannot be ridden on sidewalks and can only be driven on streets if the driver has a valid license, proper registration and insurance for the dirt bike.

And, regardless of the bike you’re on, please remember that you are required to stop for police when signaled to do so.
We hope this post prevents a child from being seriously hurt on an e-bike. Misuse of these bikes can pose serious risks to young riders and others. We strongly urge parents to do research prior to purchasing an e-bike for their children and remind their children about the rules of the road and what is/isn’t permitted e-bike usage. Anyone on an e-bike must abide by the same rules of the road as someone on a bicycle.
